Five ways to push through if you're having a bad week.
Almost two months ago, I did Five Ways to Slog Through if You’re Having a Bad Day. But what if it’s not just a bad day? What if the entire week stretches out interminably before you? Each day taking it’s own unique toll? We all have them. Here are five things to try:
Is this something you can fix? Sometimes there are actions you can take around the thing tanking your week. Are you constantly losing things and feeling like you’re in a state of complete disorganization? Clean your house. It may not help everything but it’s definitely a step in the right direction and you’ll always feel better for having taken some action.
Is this something you just have to ride out? Maybe you just got some bad news and it’s hit you in the feels. There’s nothing you can do about it, the doing is done. Allow yourself to feel whatever you’re feeling. If you have someone to lean on, see if you can talk it out. If you have friends who are being less than supportive, maybe you can distance yourself until you’re past this time.
Concentrate on the little pockets of fun throughout the week. Perhaps you have a pet that cuddles with you, or a kid that laughs at your bad jokes, or a spouse that runs an errand for you. Make a conscious effort to find those little things to appreciate throughout your week.
When you’re riding the struggle bus, don’t pack extra bags. We all have goals we want to accomplish, areas of ourselves we’d like to improve, and bad habits that we are trying to break. When you’re having a difficult week, probably not the best time to quit drinking coffee for example.
Ask someone else how they’re doing. Or just tell them you appreciate them. Sometimes diverting your focus from your own crappy week and listening to someone else can shift your perspective. Or at the very least, give you a nice mental break from your struggles. And maybe you can even help them! Which always makes one feel better.
I’d love to hear any additional tips you’d like to add! We all have bad weeks occasionally, and we all have our own ways of getting through them.
I hope this upcoming weekend is splendiferous for you!
